Pacific Whale Foundation’s ECO Adventure Lana’i dolphin watch and snorkel tour is a fun time for the whole family. Lana’i is a small island west of Maui that is largely uninhabited, which makes it’s coastline one of the top 10 snorkel locations in the world. Lana’i is also a favorite spot to find dolphins in the wild. Bottlenose dolphins, spotted dolphins, and the feisty, acrobatic spinner dolphins are the species that live in Hawaiian waters.
The 5-hour Lana’i Dolphin Watch and Snorkel Tour departs from Lahaina harbor. After checking in at the Pacific Whale Foundation Ocean Store on Front Street, you’ll board the two story boat and find a seat in the sun or shade to enjoy the cruise across the ocean. During whale season (December-April), you’ll likely spot some humpback whales breaching, tail-slapping or spouting as they hang out in the calm waters between the islands. The dolphins enjoy playing in the wake of boats so you might have a pod of spinner dolphins jumping and spinning as they follow you towards Lana’i.
While onboard, enjoy a continental breakfast of pastries and fruit with juice and Maui coffee. Included in this tour is premium snorkel gear with optical masks for eyeglass wearers, flotation devices, and reef-safe sunscreen. Wetsuit shirts, underwater cameras and binoculars are available to rent. There will be certified Marine Naturalists to tell you about our exciting underwater neighbors and answer any questions. For the keiki (children) there will be a Jr. Naturalist Program and a full-color marine wildlife poster.
After spending some time exploring the underwater world off the coast of Lana’i and marveling at the movements of the whales and dolphins, you’ll enjoy a delicious BBQ lunch onboard. Lunch options include chicken breasts, hot dogs and veggie burgers. Soda and juice are available all day and each adult will receive one complimentary beer, wine, or cocktail with the option to purchase more.
Pacific Whale Foundation’s ECO Adventures also offer memberships, which will give you discounts on your tickets. This is a great option for return visitors who wish to enjoy their adventures year after year.
